Tales from the crypt.
A series of handmade stop-frame animations inspired by 90’s spooky cult classic “Tales From The Crypt”. A Halloween special with a vintage aesthetic that borrows from the “Funny Bones” books by Janet and Allan Ahlberg.
About the project
Straight from the off you can see the reference for this style is massively inspired by Janet and Allan Ahlberg’s “Funny Bones”. Moonlit grounds, creepy graveyard scenes, and magical forests of the undergrowth, eerie right?
Whilst most of my work focuses on natural subjects fun must also be core to my work. A key part of my working process is making sure my job makes me laugh, if I’m having fun making it, it’s time well spent.
The animation uses subtle references to 90’s pop culture and vintage gaming including classic titles like “Zombies Ate My Neighbours”, and “Castlevania”. All illustrations are drawn with paper and scissors, scanned in, then digitally reworked for bright colors and real printed grain and textures.
