Going Wild
Here's an early look at some of the test prints made for the Wildlife Trusts print collection. Birds, insects, and lots of wild creatures, in all their glory with close-ups, textures, and all marks left in.
About the Moth print
About the Birds print
Kaleidoscopic patterns whirl around the wings of the midnight moth. A creature of beauty, complex and wonderful, flying through the night sky. Handmade from cut papers, scanned in, and rearranged with wonky placement. Simulated overprint, mottled ink with textured low ink viscosity, and detailed color starved edges feature across the print.
A fantastic four-color print from the Earthboy “Incredible Insects” series. A study of the beauty and marvellous patterns found in nature. The print is paired with a heavy butcher’s grain paper and simulated matchbox print style giving that warm mid-century aesthetic.
Whilst watching the birds fly through my garden here in Nottingham, these playful sketches were cut by hand from old scrap papers. The simplicity of shapes leaves more to the imagination, the sharp angles give flight and speed to the birds, whereas the smooth curved edges leave the impression of effortless gliding.
You can gaze at the print and see birds flying as if looking up at the sky, or peering through the trees and seeing the birds building their nests.
